These are sermon notes from the message that Preston Morrison preached on 12/20/2008 at Seven.
➢ In the presence of expectation, gratitude is minimized.
• Romance is the fulfilling of ones desires with the element of surprise.
• Expectations are desires that turn into demands.
• Problems come from expectations.
o What You expect will ruin what You receive.
• Mary took the angels news as a curse, rather than a blessing b/c of her expectations.
• My response to the unexpected reveals my expectations.
• What comes with expectations?
o 1) U-turns
o 2) Waiting
o 3) Anger
• How is it possible for a happily married man to leave the loving arms of his spouse and run to another?
o Because he is more married to his unrealistic expectations than he is to her and believes the lie of the enemy.
• Joseph’s list of expectations about Mary were wrong.
o He was telling her that if anything were to change, then they had a problem.
• Unfulfilled expectations result in anger.
o The longer You wait for a desire and it goes unfulfilled, the enemy lies to us.
o In Proverbs, it says a wise man keeps quiet in anger, because he realizes it’s his own unrealistic expectations making him angry.
• What do we do about expectations?
o Kill your expectations and receive happiness.
• Luke 1:
• What kills expectations?
o 1) serving: rather than seek what I desire, I will give You what You deserve, even if it means giving You my womb, true serving is putting others desires above my own.
• The key to fulfillment in any area of my life is serving others.
Micah loves serving others; he loves his job. I love how You use him as an example of a true servant.
o 2) receiving: if we will not limit our God to our own expectations and kill our own expectations, He desires to romance us with His richest blessings.
• If this is who You say I am, let it be so.
Instead of presenting a list simply receive.
• If I will not limit my Father to what I expect for my life, He will go so far to overwhelmingly bless me all the days of my life.
God, it’s your heart, as a father who wants to bless His children.
• Ephesians 3:20
o If I will kill my expectations, You will spend the rest of my life overwhelmingly blessing me.
